Greener Beijing----Need your spport to do more

 by gbj

The scene impressed me so much, when I first went to a landfill site. I was shocked by the amount of garbage we produce, all the resource turns to pollution! If this goes on, how will our earth be? I have paid much attention to solid waste problems since then. Something must be done. An Idea grew in my mind, why not take full use of the Internet to promote environmental awareness and to link the environmentalist for concerted efforts. I get down to work, Greener Beijing Declaration (English translation) was written. I also got support from Mr. Song Xinzhou (who is now the General Coordinator of Greener Beijing Volunteers), Mr. Chenxu and many other friends. After a few weeks Greener Beijing was launched from my personal homepage Cyberspace Villa. This website attract the attention of some environmentalist in the Internet community. More and more volunteers gather at Greener Beijing and try to do something together for the deteriorating environment. All the volunteers made their effort for the growth of Greener Beijing. I was very glad the like-minded could be linked by this site, it is great! Greener Beijing has now distinguished itself as the first and the most active Internet based environmental volunteers NGO in China, with volunteers spread all over China.

Many of our volunteers devoted much of their time and energy to the development of Greener Beijing: Mr. Song Xinzhou,  Ms. Liwei, Mr. Liang Qifeng, Mr. Chenxu, Mr. Hujia, Ms. Cao Dongmei, Ms. Zhouling, Mr. Ma Feipeng... just to name a few. Our concern of environmental issues and efforts covers from wild lives, air pollution, water resources, green community, green Olympics and so on. Greener Beijing also tried to be a online environmental information center. Many environment protection NGOs in China contacted Greener Beijing for more information support and cooperation. Some of our voIunteers devoted almost our time to this site construction and environmental campaign organization. We plan to make this site bilingual so that it could also bridge the environmentalist from all over the world (Currently, we are short of hand. we have to be regret that the English version is still so simple ;), we already have more than 13 columns in Chinese include nature reserve, solid waste problem, environmental news, environmental forum, Environment and Arts, green camp, NGO actions, green culture etc.).  At the end of 1999, the fate of endangered Tibetan Antelope caused our attention, We began to do some work on it. In early Feburay, 2000, the Chinese version of "Save Tibetan Antelope" was launched, March, 2000, the English version was launched also. We try our every efforts from exhibition to performance to publicize the endangered species and raise money to fund the campaign to save it. We are trying to do more for this precious species.
